It is a simple story, one told through the eyes of a dreamer. It dates back to the early 70s when a couple from Nigeria decided to start their family while in the University in the US. Washington, D.C., NW street, somewhere along that block they made home.
As luck would have it, their first child, a girl, was bestowed on them. They were happy and rejoiced further when 2 years later they were gifted with another daughter. She would be their bounty of joy for a couple of years until the third year when their son was ushered in. The husband, father and student waited for his son, and there he was, their family was now anchored.
The fulcrum would be their second child, who would play the advocate, mediator and helper and this would became norm amongst the offspring who knew they must cherish one another.
The return home - to the motherland, would open the eyes of their young children; instill in them principles and values deeply rooted in the fiber of their culture. They would grow to understand that their destiny was pre-ordained yet the fulcrum would wondered.
Now, as a young adult, she, the fulcrum who leave the scale, tipping the balance. Yet flat it may seem to her siblings as they see her off on her journey. She would return to the place of her birth. Though far from that place - that she knew to be her birthplace, her journey would begin, alone without the two people that thought her how to be the fulcrum. She would weather the storms ahead as she seeks to find her way.
HerStory is told through the eyes of a dreamer; her journey would be one of triumph, that against all odds she perseveres. Never forgetting those she anchored and remembers always what it is that has been encoded in her being. Making her who she is.
